Faith and Dystopia on Doxacast

I sat down to record a conversation with Doxacast, the Christian sci-fi/fantasy podcast associated with Doxacon. We discussed the history of science fiction, the eugenic dangers of utopia, and the best religious science fiction. I also give a small preview of my upcoming Doxacon talk on theology and teleology in Magic: The Gathering.

Here's an excerpt from the conversation:

"If we consider science fiction to be a category of worlds where there are revolutionary changes and where people are either elevated or crushed by their machines, then we definitely live in a science fiction world...And just like these writers are grappling with in their work, we have to decide what kind of world we want to live in. And I don't want to live in the utopia that H. G. Wells lays out; I don't want to live in a world ruled by eugenic technocracy where there's no room for human weakness, and people are eliminated because of their perceived disabilities or perceived failings and shortcomings."

Afterwards, in the second segment of the podcast, my wife Leah Libresco Sargeant discusses her upcoming Doxacon talk and shares fantasy novel recommendations.
